Human Rights Intern

About the role

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights is seeking a motivated intern to support the Human Rights Treaties Branch in Geneva. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with UN treaty bodies, capacity‑building programmes and related funds, contributing to the promotion and protection of international human rights standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing country and legal analyses and drafting background papers for treaty‑body reporting and individual complaints procedures.
• Conduct research on treaty‑body jurisprudence and produce concise reports.
• Support the organization and documentation of meetings of treaty bodies, working groups, and the Boards of Trustees of the Funds.
• Help with the handling of correspondence, data entry, and follow‑up actions related to capacity‑building activities.
• Provide administrative support to the Secretariat, including minute‑taking and preparation of briefing materials.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or recently graduated from a university programme in law, international relations, human rights or a related field.
• Strong interest in UN human‑rights mechanisms and treaty‑body work.
• Excellent research, analytical and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multicultural team.
