IISD Geneva Internship Program (Winter 2027)

About the role

The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) offers its Geneva internship program to students studying at Swiss universities, giving them direct practical experience with IISD's Geneva office. The program runs in Winter 2027 (January to April) and is open to students enrolled in a master's or PhD program at a Swiss university during the internship period. The internship must be part of the university curriculum and count toward academic credits.

Key responsibilities

• Work within one of IISD's Geneva teams: Economic Law and Policy, Energy, Resilience, Project Management / Monitoring & Evaluation, State of Sustainability Initiatives (SSI) or the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF).
• Be present at the Geneva office during agreed hours, following a regular schedule that can be adapted to academic commitments.
• Tasks vary with the project and may include research and editing, event management and communications.
• Be supervised by a program staff member who sets objectives, manages the work and gives feedback.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a master's or PhD program at a Swiss university during the internship dates, with the internship counted toward credits.
• Fluent in spoken and written English.
• Excellent academic performance shown by recent records.
• Valid Swiss residence permit (B or C) or Swiss citizenship.
• Applications must include a cover letter naming the chosen program and a CV, both in English.
