Intern - Rights of Older Persons

About the role

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is recruiting an intern in Geneva for six months, within the Equality and Non-Discrimination Branch (END), Thematic and Special Procedures Division (TSP), working with the Older Persons Unit. The intern reports to a Human Rights Officer and supports the team in report drafting, communications, partnership building and advocacy.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research and analysis on assigned topics
• Support meetings, seminars and workshops: prepare background materials, meeting notes and summaries, research and invites
• Support the conceptualization and writing of projects and initiatives
• Support the design and organization of capacity-building training and workshops
• Draft human rights briefs, infographics and other written materials
• Draft social media posts and newsletters

Required profile

• Enrolled in or having completed a graduate programme (Master's or equivalent), or enrolled in or having completed the final year of a first-level degree (Bachelor's or equivalent)
• Strong writing and research skills
• Fluency in spoken and written English; knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset

Required skills

• Desirable: social media content creation, graphic design, layout and publications

Interns are not paid by the United Nations; costs for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the intern's responsibility. The UN does not charge any fee at any stage of the recruitment process.
