International Accounting and Reporting Director

About the role

The International Accounting and Reporting Director is a senior finance leadership role at Alcon, responsible for the strategic direction and governance of accounting and financial reporting across international markets. The role oversees IFRS and Alcon policy application, leads complex accounting decisions and acts as a trusted advisor to regional and global stakeholders. It is a key successor role in the International Finance leadership pipeline.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the evolution of the FRA function into an international organization, scaling the team and operating model.
• Own stakeholder experience and deliver reliable accounting outcomes and balance sheet reviews.
• Act as the single point of accountability for Global Technical Accounting, International FRA, Consolidations and Reporting, covering key decisions and risk management across regions.
• Champion digital transformation, automation and AI in accounting and reporting, and embed responsible use of these tools.
• Strengthen controller capability and build a high-performing finance talent bench with regional partners.
• Lead quarterly International Balance Sheet reviews with the CFO and Head of FRA, and harmonize accounting practices across regions.
• Resolve complex accounting topics, shape regional revenue recognition positions and establish a risk identification and governance framework.
• Partner with the Internal Controls function and lead digital initiatives with internal teams and external consultants.
• Build a controller community, run IFRS training, technical workshops and knowledge-sharing forums, and travel on a need basis (about 30% in year 1).

Required profile

• Chartered Accountant or CPA is a must.
• 15+ years of experience in accounting, finance, internal controls or advisory, with strong IFRS knowledge.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive policy and structural change.
• Big 4 audit and/or Technical Accounting experience, and experience in multinational matrix environments.
• Track record of building high-performing teams and leading through change.
• Fluent English; Mandarin or Japanese is a plus.
