International Medical Secretary – Senior Executive Role

About the role

The International Medical Secretary (IMS) is the most senior executive medical leader within MSF International. Reporting to the International President and the International Secretary General, the IMS ensures that medical identity, operational priorities and ethical standards shape movement‑wide decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic medical leadership across MSF International, overseeing a EUR 6.6 million budget and a team of 56 staff.
• Chair the Medical‑Operational Directorate Platform, setting its agenda and guiding collective decision‑making on major medical‑operational issues.
• Lead the annual medical‑operational mutual‑accountability exercise, producing analysis, recommendations and reporting to executive bodies.
• Represent MSF on high‑level external medical platforms, shaping the organization’s position on priority humanitarian health topics.
• Contribute to the International Office Leadership Team, influencing policy, direction and cross‑functional collaboration.

Required profile

• Extensive senior medical leadership experience in an international humanitarian or global health context.
• Proven ability to manage large multidisciplinary teams and multi‑million‑euro budgets.
• Strong understanding of medical ethics, quality of care and patient‑centred approaches.
• Experience chairing or facilitating high‑level strategic platforms and driving collective decision‑making.
