Internship in Material Science and Varistors (80-100%)

About the role

Hitachi Energy's Profit Center Surge Arresters in Wettingen, Switzerland, develops overvoltage protection solutions for power generation, distribution, railway and industry. This internship of at least 6 months gives hands-on experience in materials research and process development within a collaborative team.

Key responsibilities

• Support research on metal oxide varistor materials and manufacturing processes
• Analyse samples using advanced characterisation techniques
• Explore the links between process parameters, microstructure and material properties
• Document findings and present results to the research team
• Carry out literature reviews supporting ongoing research

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science / Materials Engineering or a related discipline (official enrolment is essential)
• Fluent written and spoken English
• Self-motivated, able to work independently
• Non-EU/EFTA candidates need an official university certificate stating the internship is mandatory for their studies

Required skills

• Experience in ceramics and sinter technology is beneficial
• Lab work experience and knowledge of material analysis methods such as microscopy, SEM and spectroscopy
