Java Software Engineer – 2027 Graduate Talent Program

About the role

UBS is recruiting a Java Software Engineer for its 2027 Graduate Talent Program, starting on 1 September 2027. The program is 18 months long and combines professional and technical training with rotations, giving graduates the chance to grow their skills and network. The team builds TCP/IP connectivity solutions that link clients, market venues and internal trading platforms, supporting 24/6 electronic trading across equities, fixed income, ETFs and derivatives.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the development and maintenance of the trading connectivity platform, mainly using Java.
• Work with Software Engineers, Test Engineers and Product Owners to deliver business requirements.
• Take part in backlog refinement, sprint planning, releases and production support.
• Help troubleshoot and analyse issues with guidance from experienced team members.
• Learn and apply AI-assisted engineering practices across the software development lifecycle.
• Build an understanding of financial markets, trading workflows and protocols such as FIX and SWIFT.

Required profile

• Recent graduate (within the last 24 months) who has completed their degree and graduation requirements by the start date.
• No more than two years of full-time work experience.
• Bachelor's or master's degree, preferably in a MINT field; majors other than Computer Science or Software Engineering are welcome if there is an interest in the financial industry.
• Competitive minimum GPA of 4.5 on the Swiss grading scale.
• Values of hard work, trustworthiness, dedication and collaboration, and a strategic mindset with strong communication skills.
• Evidence of how the experimental and responsible use of AI can improve outcomes and efficiency.

Required skills

• Good knowledge of Java and object-oriented programming.
• Understanding of software development fundamentals and version control systems such as Git.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills, and eagerness to learn in an Agile environment.
