Java Spring Boot Software Engineer (Process Automation)

About the role

adesso is looking for a Process Automation Engineer (Java / Spring Boot) in Bern to build real systems, not just CRUD boilerplate. The role sits within the Business Automation line of business and involves modelling executable workflows, running them on a process engine and backing them with clean, tested Java and Spring Boot services.

Key responsibilities

• Model executable workflows in BPMN 2.0, CMMN and DMN and run them on a process engine such as Camunda, Flowable or UiPath Maestro
• Implement the process models and service tasks, wire them into the existing IT landscape via REST APIs and message-based integrations, and tune the engine for performance and scale in production
• Work with business and IT stakeholders to turn real-world processes into robust, executable models
• Contribute to classic process orchestration and to introducing modern hyperautomation and agentic automation concepts
• Help choose engines and patterns, define reusable building blocks and keep the platform clean as it grows

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Data Science or a comparable field, or an IT apprenticeship
• At least 3 years of related professional experience
• Fluency in English and C1 German; project-based willingness to travel
• Agile mindset, strong communication skills, customer orientation and ability to write readable, testable code

Required skills

• Java and Spring Boot, with JUnit testing and mocking frameworks
• DBMS, SQL, JPA, ORM, Maven or Gradle, Git, RESTful web services and JSON/XML
• Nice to have: Docker, DevOps tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, ArgoCD, Kustomize, Octopus), Kubernetes, OAuth 2.0 / OIDC, Agile (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe)
• Nice to have: workflow engines (Camunda, Flowable, UiPath Maestro), BPMN 2.0, CMMN, DMN, advanced BPMN patterns, UML, microservices design, frontend development with React
