Legal Officer (Fixed‑term, 1 year) – International Law

About the role

The Legal Officer will support the IPCC under the supervision of the Secretary and in cooperation with the WMO Legal Counsel. The role involves handling complex legal matters, providing advice, and managing relationships with intergovernmental partners.

Key responsibilities

• Handle complex legal and procedural matters related to the IPCC, including interpretation of rules and procedures.
• Conduct legal research, prepare briefs, reports and correspondence, and review legal documents for inconsistencies.
• Manage IPCC Conflict of Interest Policy implementation and observer accreditation processes.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with governments, UN bodies and NGOs, and support drafting of MoUs and contracts.
• Coordinate with WMO Legal Counsel to ensure consistent legal advice across both organisations.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in international law or a related field.
• At least seven years of progressive legal experience, including three to four years at the international level, preferably within the UN system.
• Expertise in public international law, law of international organisations and administrative law.
• Demonstrated ability to draft, negotiate and review MoUs, contracts, IP, copyright and conflict‑of‑interest matters.

Required skills

• Strong legal judgment and risk‑identification abilities.
• Excellent written and oral English; French is desirable.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

What we offer

• Annual net base salary of US$86,027 plus post‑adjustment of US$72,005.
