Mechanical Engineer

About the role

K2 Photonics is developing next‑generation femtosecond laser platforms for precision sensing and timing. As a Mechanical Engineer you will take the mechanical and system‑level design from late prototype to robust, field‑deployable, production‑ready hardware.

Key responsibilities

• Design and model mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD tools.
• Own mechanical integration, ensuring tolerances, interface requirements and spatial constraints are met.
• Develop rugged, compact, serviceable enclosures suitable for harsh environments.
• Validate manufacturability, serviceability and integration readiness of all parts.
• Create and execute test plans for mechanical, thermal and vibration robustness.
• Analyze failure modes and implement design improvements to boost reliability and lifetime.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience in a hardware‑related role, preferably in multidisciplinary R&D or product development.
• Proven ability to translate high‑level system requirements into detailed mechanical designs.
• Strong documentation skills and a proactive, detail‑oriented mindset.
• Fluency in English; German is a plus.

Required skills

• SolidWorks (or equivalent 3D CAD) and PDM proficiency.
• Mechanical design of systems that incorporate optical assemblies.
• Tolerance analysis, thermal analysis and vibration analysis.
• Failure‑mode analysis and reliability engineering.
• Test plan development for mechanical and environmental validation.
