Mechanical Engineer / Mechanical Engineering Technician HF – Scientific Instrumentation

About the role

We develop and build cryogenic systems for electron microscopy, enabling researchers to explore materials at near‑absolute‑zero temperatures. As a spin‑off of the University of Zurich, we combine scientific research with advanced instrument engineering and are looking for a technically versatile mechanical engineer.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and design mechanical components and assemblies from concept through CAD design, prototyping and testing.
• Prepare manufacturing drawings, bills of materials and technical documentation.
• Evaluate materials, manufacturing processes and purchased components, liaising with suppliers.
• Assemble and test prototypes, improving existing designs for functionality, reliability and manufacturability.
• Collaborate closely with development and production teams at the intersection of mechanical engineering, cryogenics, vacuum technology and electrical measurement technology.

Required profile

• Degree in mechanical engineering (ETH, university of applied sciences, Techniker HF or equivalent).
• Sound knowledge of mechanical design and proficiency in a 3D CAD system (SolidWorks).
• Good understanding of technical drawings, tolerances, materials and manufacturing processes.
• Enthusiasm for hands‑on work, including building, assembly and troubleshooting.
• Independent, meticulous work approach and confident communication in German and English.
