Non-Financial Risk Expert (Operational Risk & Control Specialist)

About the role

Julius Baer is seeking an experienced and proactive Operational Risk & Control Specialist to join its Operational Risk team. The function identifies, assesses, monitors and mitigates operational risks arising from the Bank's business activities, within the risk appetite set by the Board, and fosters a strong risk culture. The successful candidate will cover a broad range of operational risk management activities and work closely with stakeholders across business and support functions.

Key responsibilities

• Review, assess and manage operational risk incidents, including root cause analysis, action plans and timely resolution
• Perform Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs) and assess the design and effectiveness of key controls, supporting remediation where needed
• Develop and maintain operational risk metrics, Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and management information reporting, and prepare risk reports and presentations for senior management and risk committees
• Support the review and enhancement of operational risk policies, procedures, frameworks and standards
• Partner with business and support units to improve processes and controls, and provide independent review and constructive challenge
• Promote a strong risk and control culture through awareness programmes, training and stakeholder engagement
• Investigate client complaints, fraud cases, operational incidents and other risk events, and carry out ad hoc reviews and thematic assessments
• Uphold ethics, integrity and compliance, and support regulatory, supervisory and audit requirements
• Build partnerships across functions and act as a trusted risk partner, supporting supervisory reviews and audits

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution
• Minimum 6-8 years of experience in Private Banking, Operational Risk, Audit, Compliance or related functions
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to challenge processes constructively
• Able to manage multiple priorities and deliver quality results under tight deadlines

Required skills

• Good knowledge of operational risk management practices, including incident management, RCSA, control testing, issue management and KRI monitoring
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, PowerPoint and Word
• Experience with data analytics or visualisation tools, or other automation tools for process improvement, is advantageous
