Numerical Modeling Engineer – Fusion Magnet Simulations

About the role

Proxima Fusion is seeking a Numerical Modeling Engineer to create high‑fidelity simulation tools that predict the behaviour of superconducting magnets for the world’s first commercial stellarator. You will work at the intersection of electromagnetics, thermal dynamics and transient multiphysics, turning advanced scientific concepts into reliable hardware designs.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain multiphysics simulation frameworks covering electromagnetic, thermal and quench dynamics of HTS magnets.
• Generate predictive models that de‑risk coil designs, conductor selections and protection systems.
• Collaborate with magnet designers, cryogenic engineers and manufacturing teams to integrate simulation results into hardware development.
• Validate models against experimental data and refine them to improve accuracy and computational efficiency.
• Document modeling standards and contribute to the definition of best‑practice simulation workflows.

Required profile

• Strong academic or professional background in numerical modeling and multiphysics simulation.
• Experience with superconducting magnet concepts, quench dynamics or high‑field electromagnetics.
• Ability to work autonomously while contributing to a multidisciplinary, fast‑moving engineering team.
• Proven problem‑solving skills applied to complex engineering challenges.
• Excellent communication skills for presenting technical results to diverse stakeholders.
