One Ocean Finance Lead (Consultant)

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is seeking a consultant to lead its One Ocean Finance workstream. This remote, 5‑month assignment will support the integration of sustainability principles into the financial sector, focusing on the blue economy and sustainable food systems.

Key responsibilities

• Engage a broad range of financial institutions—including commercial banks, asset managers, insurers, and multilateral development banks—to implement the Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB) and the Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI).
• Conduct research and provide guidance on financing mechanisms for a sustainable blue economy and sustainable land use.
• Expand UNEP FI’s focus on sustainable finance for food systems.
• Promote sustainability across all aspects of financial sector operations and services.
• Broaden outreach within UNEP/UN and externally to governments, regulators, private sector, and multi‑stakeholder groups.

Required profile

• Proven experience in sustainable finance, preferably with exposure to UN environmental initiatives.
• Strong understanding of the PRB and PSI frameworks.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate with diverse financial stakeholders.
