Onsite Support Engineer (Level 1, VPN)

About the role

D-ploy, an IT and engineering solutions company operating across EMEA and the USA, is looking for an onsite Support Engineer in Schaffhausen. The role covers first-level support for a client, including desktop infrastructure monitoring, PC and laptop maintenance, ticket handling and VPN support, with onsite and remote tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor the performance of the company's desktop infrastructure and suggest improvements
• Act as the main contact for employees with computer issues
• Maintain and plan the future of the desktop infrastructure
• Provide complex IT support onsite and remotely (PC, laptop, peripherals)
• Handle front-desk support for customer inquiries and problems
• Manage the inventory system (purchasing, goods receipt, maintenance, disposal)
• Carry out simple installations such as network cabling
• Set up IT infrastructure for new employees and coordinate PC installations, e.g. workstation relocations
• Process and document tickets, evaluate software patches and resolve software, hardware and device issues
• Install, configure and maintain desktop hardware and software, including Connect client support and basic Exchange troubleshooting and AD account changes
• Troubleshoot PC connectivity, network elements, ISPs, firewalls, switches, wireless equipment and the telephone system
• Implement and support the VPN remote access solution, document the local client environment and escalate issues when needed
• Keep customers informed of incidents, changes and outages, and advise and train staff on computer operations

Required profile

• Good understanding of IT trends, products and solutions
• At least 1 year of experience in a similar position supporting a variety of technologies
• Highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, customer-focused and able to work independently while following best practices
• Fluent written and spoken English and German; French is a plus
• Willing to travel within the Schaffhausen area, with a driver's licence and a private car
• Candidates must provide a criminal record extract not older than 3 months

Required skills

• In-depth knowledge of Windows 7 and 10 and Microsoft Office and Office 365
• Knowledge of PC and laptop hardware and peripherals, including printers and mobile devices
• Basic knowledge of Active Directory and Exchange
• ITIL certification and familiarity with the ServiceNow ticketing system are an advantage
• GxP knowledge is desired
