OPENLAB Summer Student Programme 2027 – Computing

About the role

CERN's OPENLAB Summer Student Programme 2027 offers a 2-month summer internship for computing students at CERN in Geneva. Selected students join a multicultural team, contribute to real projects and take part in a programme designed to expand their knowledge and curiosity, working alongside experts and students from around the world.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to a technical or scientific project within a computing team at CERN.
• Learn from lectures delivered by world-leading scientists and specialists.
• Take part in discussions, workshops and visits to CERN's facilities.
• Share your learning and experience with peers from a wide range of backgrounds.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's student (not a PhD candidate) with a strong computing profile, having completed at least 6 semesters (3 academic years) of full-time university studies by the start of the summer.
• No more than 3 months of previous work at CERN and no prior participation in the Summer Student Programme.
• Good knowledge of English.
• Enrolled as a full-time student during the summer (June to the end of September).

• Adaptability, openness and a proactive approach to learning.

What we offer

• Subsistence allowance of 94 CHF per calendar day (tax free), with health insurance coverage included.
• Travel expenses to Geneva upon arrival, depending on individual circumstances.
• An extensive physics lecture programme, plus IT lectures organised by Openlab.
• Assistance finding accommodation on the CERN site or nearby.

Applications close on 21 January 2027 at 23:59 (Geneva time); the ideal start date is 21 June 2027, with 40 weekly hours. Documents needed include a CV, an academic reference letter dated within 12 months, an official transcript, a certificate of enrolment and any other relevant documents, in English or French.
