Summer Student Programme 2027 (Physics, Engineering, IT)

About the role

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, offers a Summer Student Programme for 2027, open to students of all nationalities. Selected students join a multicultural team and contribute to real projects in experimental, engineering, IT or research teams, while attending lectures, workshops and visits to CERN's facilities. The ideal start date is 14 June 2027, with a weekly workload of 40 hours and a fully onsite position.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to a technical or scientific project within an experimental, engineering, IT or research team.
• Learn from lectures delivered by world-leading scientists and specialists.
• Take part in discussions, workshops and visits to CERN's facilities.
• Share your learning and experience with peers from a wide range of backgrounds.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's student (not a PhD candidate) in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science or a related field, having completed at least 6 semesters (3 academic years) of full-time study by the start of the summer.
• Not employed at CERN for more than 3 months under another status and not previously in the Summer Student Programme.
• Good knowledge of English.
• Enrolled full-time during the summer (June to the end of September, depending on contract length).

What we offer

• A tax-free subsistence allowance of 94 CHF per calendar day, with health insurance coverage (students paid by a national funding agency bring their own insurance).
• Travel expenses to Geneva upon arrival, depending on circumstances.
• An extensive physics lecture programme, including IT lectures by Openlab.
• Assistance finding accommodation on site or nearby.
