Particle Accelerator Operator

About the role

Join the Operations Group at CERN to run the accelerator complex from the CERN Control Centre. You will be part of the 24/7 shift team delivering particle beams for various physics programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Operate proton and ion accelerators (e.g., Linac3, Linac4, PSB, LEIR, PS) and associated beam lines on a shift basis.
• Work with accelerator physicists to set up, optimise, and document operational scenarios.
• Develop applications and advanced tools in collaboration with engineers and physicists.
• Assist technical infrastructure teams during non‑operational periods.

Required profile

• Higher technical or administrative diploma or equivalent.
• Initial experience in a technical or scientific environment.
• Basic knowledge of software engineering and automation concepts.
• Willingness to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Operation of accelerators and beam lines.
• Analysis and optimisation of accelerator performance.
• Testing and validation of detector, accelerator and beam line components.
• Programming techniques and software development.
• Automation, PLCs, and related hardware knowledge.
