Postdoctoral Researcher - Athlete Load and Recovery Monitoring
ETH Zurich · Zurich
Job description
About the role
The Running Performance Group of the Exercise Physiology Lab at ETH Zurich's Department of Health Sciences and Technology is looking for a fixed-term postdoctoral researcher in athlete monitoring. Current technologies collect large amounts of athlete data but often fail to guide training and recovery effectively; the project aims to develop and evaluate new ways to monitor load and recovery, including sports equipment that may influence them.
Key responsibilities
- Design, run and publish studies combining laboratory experiments and telemonitored training and testing sessions
- Develop protocols and metrics to assess the relationship between training load and recovery
- Lead the team in testing and developing new monitoring approaches, including laboratory protocols
- Build collaborations within and outside ETH, seek multi-centre studies and partnerships with sports clubs or teams
- Present work at national and international conferences
- Support teaching and co-supervise BSc, MSc and PhD students
Required profile
- PhD in Sports Sciences or Engineering in the context of Sports Sciences
- Experience with longitudinal studies tracking load and recovery in athletes
- Solid background in biomechanics, including hands-on testing, and a good foundation in exercise physiology
- Excellent coding experience and ability to handle large datasets
- Proactive, self-motivated, team-oriented, with outstanding academic and communication skills
- C1-level spoken and written English and German, or strong commitment to learn quickly
- Coaching experience at different levels is welcome
What we offer
- Fully funded full-time position on the ETH Zurich postdoctoral salary scale for one year, renewable up to six years
- Interdisciplinary research environment with access to modern laboratory facilities
- Training opportunities and a strong professional network
Applications must be submitted online through the university's application portal and include a motivation letter, a research proposal, a CV with two academic referees, a publication list, degree certificates and transcripts. The call remains open until a suitable candidate is found.
