Power Electronics Engineer for Traction Projects (80-100%)

About the role

Join ABB's Motion division to design and develop traction power electronics converters and energy storage systems for trains, metros, trams and next‑generation locomotives. You will work with global engineering, production, R&D and project‑management teams to deliver high‑quality, efficient traction solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design traction power electronics converters and energy storage systems, ensuring integration with vehicles and compliance with customer, industry and internal specifications.
• Lead specification, execution, analysis and documentation of type and qualification tests for traction converters and ESS to guarantee robust performance and energy efficiency.
• Develop deep technical expertise in core power‑engineering components and tools, providing guidance to peers and optimizing design processes.
• Contribute to product family standardisation and continuous improvement, driving innovation in the integration of converters with ESS.

Required profile

• Qualified Power Electronics or Electrical Engineer with solid design and engineering experience.
• Strong curiosity, continuous‑learning mindset and willingness to share knowledge within the team.
• Proactive problem‑solver who takes ownership of tasks and works effectively in an inclusive, collaborative environment.
• Fluent in English (both written and spoken); German is a strong advantage.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for project support.
