Principal / Senior Principal Software Engineer

About the role

Roche is seeking a Principal or Senior Principal Software Engineer to join its Data and Digital Catalyst team within the Computational Sciences Center of Excellence. You will design and build modern, scalable data ecosystems that enable AI‑driven drug discovery.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement interactive tools for small‑ and large‑molecule drug discovery, integrating data, molecular design workflows, computational algorithms and AI models.
• Develop and maintain robust data pipelines and applications for acquisition, storage, transformation, linkage and sharing of scientific data.
• Apply micro‑services and event‑driven architectures to improve data workflows and the overall application ecosystem.
• Collaborate with computational and research scientists to translate scientific challenges into effective technology solutions.

Required profile

• 8‑10+ years of experience in the life‑science domain building full‑stack software solutions, preferably for drug discovery.
• Ph.D. or equivalent experience with strong engineering expertise across backend and frontend layers.
• Proven ability to architect scalable solutions in complex, multi‑system environments.
• Excellent communication skills and experience mentoring junior developers.
