Product Manager Digital - User Research
abb · Baden
Job description
About the role
A new Product Manager Digital role within ABB Smart Power's Digital Agile Unit, reporting to the Chapter Lead. The unit develops energy management and control solutions for industrial customers, critical infrastructure and data centers, and the Digital Innovation Agile Team explores new technologies and customer needs. This role establishes continuous user research, strengthens discovery and brings customer evidence into product and innovation decisions. It is a senior research role, not a UI or UX design role, with a hybrid work model and a preferred location in Europe.
Key responsibilities
- Establish and lead a continuous UX research practice across the Digital Innovation Agile Team and support wider adoption across the unit.
- Plan and conduct ongoing discovery research with customers and stakeholders, including regular interviews and on-site observation.
- Build and maintain access to research participants through sales organizations, key accounts, customer relationships, site visits and industry events.
- Align quarterly research priorities with the Digital Innovation Product Owner, focusing on relevant customer segments, regions, use cases and business questions.
- Analyze research evidence to identify unmet needs, workflow challenges, recurring patterns and differences across users and markets.
- Translate findings into opportunity areas and recommendations for product, innovation, engineering and data science teams.
- Maintain research evidence, methods and templates, and facilitate workshops and coaching to apply customer insights in product decisions.
Required profile
- At least 5 years of professional user research experience, including discovery interviews, qualitative analysis or research-led product management.
- Able to plan and carry out research from start to finish with limited supervision and to set up a new practice in a changing environment.
- Fluent in English; curious about industrial, manufacturing, energy, electrification or critical infrastructure environments.
- Willing to travel 2 to 4 times per month to customer sites, trade shows and team locations in different regions.
Required skills
- Strong written and verbal communication, able to explain findings to technical and business audiences.
- Preferred: experience in B2B, SaaS, FinTech, enterprise or industrial software; exposure to OT, energy management, manufacturing, infrastructure, Agile teams, product management or software engineering.
- Experience setting up research practices, mentoring others or introducing research methods into product teams is useful.
