Professor & Head of Institute of Health Economics (80–100%)

About the role

The Winterthur Institute of Health Economics (WIG) seeks a senior academic leader to steer the institute into its next growth phase. The position combines a full professorship with overall responsibility for the institute’s strategic, research and teaching activities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the further development of the institute, overseeing more than 30 faculty and staff members.
• Co‑manage the institute together with the heads of four research centres (Health Economic Research, HTA & Health Economic Evaluation, Health Care Management, Health Services Research, and Education & Services).
• Drive third‑party funding generation, maintaining an external funding ratio of roughly 80 %.
• Contribute to teaching and research in a core thematic area of the institute as a full professor.

Required profile

• Health economist holding a PhD in Economics, Health Economics or a closely related social/health science discipline, with a strong publication record in leading peer‑reviewed journals.
• Entrepreneurial mindset capable of identifying and developing new research opportunities.
• Proven leadership, communication, negotiation and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Demonstrated success in securing substantial third‑party research grants.
• Experience designing and positioning executive education programmes.
• Established professional network across national and international healthcare and academic sectors.
• Deep understanding of the Swiss healthcare system, its regulatory framework and current policy challenges.
• Extensive experience in policy‑relevant, applied health‑economic research.
• Ability to teach and mentor diverse audiences in both German and English.
