Professor of Sport Pedagogy and Health Development (Open Rank)

About the role

The Medical Faculty of the University of Basel seeks a permanent professor to lead research, teaching and translational projects in Sport Pedagogy and Health Development. The role starts on 1 July 2024 (or by appointment) and is part of the Department of Sport, Exercise and Health.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate interdisciplinary research on sport participation, health promotion, and the impact of physical activity on cognition.
• Design and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in German, focusing on sport pedagogy, educational theory, and health development.
• Lead translational projects that move scientific findings into public health practice.
• Participate actively in department management and university governance.
• Mentor junior scholars and contribute to their career development.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in exercise or sports science.
• Strong international publication record and successful acquisition of competitive third‑party funding.
• Proven university teaching experience, preferably in German.
• Established research network and experience leading interdisciplinary projects.
• Empirical‑quantitative research orientation with experience collaborating with educational and health organisations.
• Good German language skills.
