Project Engineer – Hydraulic Design & Simulation

About the role

We are seeking a Project Engineer to lead hydraulic design and system analysis for water turbine projects, including both conversion upgrades and new plant installations. The role combines technical engineering with cross‑functional collaboration to ensure safe, efficient, and grid‑compatible hydropower solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop hydraulic designs and geometric dimensioning for large water turbines.
• Perform transient system analyses and pressure surge calculations to guarantee mechanical and hydraulic safety.
• Conduct grid‑integration stability studies to ensure reliable connection to power networks.
• Lead feasibility studies and innovative project concepts for plant modernisation.
• Provide specialist advice to sales, project management, and commissioning teams on national and international projects.
• Continuously improve internal software tools and calculation methods for system analysis.

Required profile

• Completed mechanical engineering studies (FH/ETH/TU) with a focus on fluid mechanics, hydraulics or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulic machines, preferably large turbines, and hydropower plant system design.
• Practical experience with transient system analyses and fluid‑transient calculations.
• Fluent German (C1) for project coordination and good English communication skills.
• Analytical mindset, interdisciplinary interest, and strong customer‑service orientation.
