Prototype Developer (C++) – VR/AR Head-Mounted Devices

About the role

Quality-AI is recruiting a team of Tools Engineers / Software Developers for its client's Core Technologies team in Zurich, on a 100% on-site basis. The team builds software, computer vision and robotics tools that evaluate and regress test tracking systems and algorithms, and develops software for computer vision and mixed reality features on VR and AR head-mounted devices. The role covers prototyping, unit testing, regression testing, end-to-end testing, debugging, performance evaluation and quality assurance.

Key responsibilities

• Debug and upgrade tools used or built by the team.
• Evaluate the CPU, GPU, memory and thermal impact of features deployed to HMDs.
• Develop and improve tools for visualising data collected from the HMDs.
• Improve code quality through code reviews, design document reviews and extensive testing.
• Take part in on-call rotations, resolve incidents and write postmortems.
• Create end-user experience apps to validate new features in small test applications.

Required profile

• Solid engineering skills in the relevant programming languages and operating systems (C++, Python, Linux, Android).
• Familiarity with agentic development and ability to improve internal agentic workflows.
• Knowledge in at least one domain: computer vision, XR, computer graphics or machine learning.
• Experience in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and comfort working in ambiguity.
• Willingness to tackle data-related issues with manual QA when needed, and an architectural mindset focused on the end user.

Required skills

• Extensive hands-on C++, ideally with C++17/C++20 and standard libraries, including template metaprogramming and Googletest.
• Buck build tool, efficient Python scripting and Python notebooks (NumPy, SciPy, matplotlib).
• OpenCV, OpenGL/Vulkan, Qt, and practical ML knowledge with a focus on model deployment (ML Ops).
• Segmentation, stereo depth and distributed compute and rendering.
