Public Information Officer – Communications Lead

About the role

The Public Information Officer leads the Editorial Unit within the Communications and Public Mobilization Section of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). Reporting to the Chief of Communications, the incumbent designs and executes large‑scale, multi‑platform communication campaigns that promote the Office’s work worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement complex communications campaigns, integrating content across print, digital, and multimedia channels.
• Identify and adopt emerging communication tools, including AI‑assisted content production and digital‑first storytelling formats.
• Provide strategic advice to senior managers on public affairs, anticipate and resolve communications issues.
• Build and manage partnerships with media, governmental bodies, NGOs, private sector and international organisations; act as spokesperson when required.
• Oversee the creation of diverse communication products supporting major initiatives.
• Monitor, evaluate and report on the impact of communication activities and trends related to the UN.
• Represent OHCHR at meetings, conferences and public events; organise briefings, seminars and interviews.
• Support day‑to‑day unit operations, including policy dissemination, procedural guidance, budget preparation and staff training.
• Coordinate and lead a team of public information staff.
