R&D Control Engineer - Power Electronics

About the role

ABB is looking for an R&D Control Engineer in Baden, reporting to the R&D Team Lead. The engineer works on technology and product development projects, identifying and implementing innovative solutions for high-current applications such as steel and aluminium production, contributing to a sustainable, fossil-free future.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to R&D projects for AC and DC power electronics topologies, focusing on control aspects
• Support simulation studies to understand the impact of power electronics systems on the grid and process
• Support application development with MATLAB / Simulink and Real-Time Workshop
• Run test plans and test cases in the hardware-in-the-loop simulator
• Support verification of application software against specifications
• Help develop the IP strategy for the area of work
• Work with engineering and product management stakeholders and take part in technical discussions with internal and external partners

Required profile

• Master's degree in electrical engineering
• Very good knowledge of AC and DC power electronic topologies such as line-commutated converters and voltage-source converters
• Experience in control design for power electronics systems
• Knowledge of model-based development of control and protection functions
• Team player, structured, with strong self-management and communication skills
• Fluent English; German is beneficial
