R&D Specialist - System Science

About the role

Nestlé Product Technology Center for Coffee in Orbe is looking for an R&D Specialist in System Science. The role builds the scientific foundations needed to explain, optimise and predict the performance of product, machine and packaging systems. It works closely with system performance specialists, product developers, engineers and multidisciplinary research teams.

Key responsibilities

• Formulate hypotheses linking product, machine and packaging design choices with beverage performance
• Design experiments that reveal flow, pressure, mass transfer, extraction, dissolution and foam generation mechanisms
• Build predictive, physics-based models that explain system behaviour and guide technical decisions
• Identify performance drivers, variability and knowledge gaps to improve system robustness and optimisation
• Create reusable scientific knowledge that speeds up future research, product development and system innovation
• Translate scientific findings into clear recommendations for technical integration, validation and performance improvement

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of physical chemistry, applied physics, mechanical engineering or a related scientific field
• Ability to use predictive modelling to explain system behaviour, justify test design choices and anticipate performance
• Expertise in transport phenomena, fluid systems, experimentation and packaging
• Fluent English and the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts clearly
