Research Associate in Strategic Management (PhD Position)

About the role

The Institute of Management & Strategy at the University of St.Gallen seeks a full‑time Research Associate to pursue a PhD in Strategic Management. You will conduct high‑quality basic and applied research on growth strategies, geopolitics, corporate strategy, alliances, ecosystems, and the use of AI in strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute research projects that meet international academic standards.
• Publish scientific articles and present findings at international conferences.
• Support teaching activities for Bachelor, Master, and Executive Education programmes, including supervising theses.
• Collaborate with corporate partners and research consortia on joint projects.

Required profile

• Outstanding Master’s degree in business, management or a related field from a leading university.
• Strong interest in growth strategies, geopolitics, corporate strategy, alliances, ecosystems, and AI in strategy.
• Demonstrated analytical ability and experience with scientific research methods (e.g., master thesis).
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills in German and English (C1 or higher).
• Proactive, organized, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Required skills

• Knowledge of statistics and quantitative research methods.
• Experience with AI tools for data analysis.
• Programming skills in Python or R.
