About the role

Julius Baer is hiring a 100% Senior System Engineer (SDN Private Cloud) to design, engineer and document enterprise-grade virtualised x86 infrastructure focused on agile, automated and secure cloud environments based on software-defined networking (SDN). The role also covers end-to-end operations of virtualisation and network services platforms, including L2/L3 support, and requires participation in a 7x24 on-call rotation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, engineer and document virtualised x86 infrastructure and SDN-based cloud environments
• Shape network architecture strategy with micro-segmentation, logical switching and routing, distributed firewalls and intent-based networking
• Operate virtualisation and network platforms, including high availability, performance tuning, fault remediation and incident management
• Drive global rollout, monitoring and optimisation of virtualised infrastructure using SDN features such as stateful service chaining, overlay networks and centralised control planes
• Lead large-scale infrastructure changes such as data centre migrations, technology refreshes and upgrades of tier-0/tier-1 gateways, edge clusters and distributed routing engines
• Promote infrastructure automation and GitOps, including IaC tools and API-first, declarative configurations
• Define operational procedures and run proactive capacity and performance management using telemetry and flow analytics
• Take part in a 7x24 on-call rotation (about one week per month) as technical escalation point

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a closely related field; equivalent practical experience considered
• At least five years' hands-on experience as a senior virtualisation engineer on enterprise x86 infrastructure in mission-critical environments
• Experience deploying and managing SDDC frameworks, preferably VMware Cloud Foundation
• Willingness to join a 7x24 on-call rotation
• Fluent English (written and spoken); additional languages are an advantage

Required skills

• VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter) and VMware NSX-T (highly advantageous)
• SDN concepts: VXLAN/Geneve, logical switching and routing, distributed firewalling
• Data centre networking: IPv4/IPv6, BGP, Tier-0/Tier-1 gateways
• PowerShell, Python, Terraform or Ansible, and API access to NSX Manager and AVI Controller
• Knowledge of SAN/NAS, Fibre Channel, NFS/CIFS; exposure to Tanzu Kubernetes Grid or VKS is a plus
