Senior AI Engineer - Clinical Trial Intelligence

About the role

Rivia builds a data engine that powers clinical trial intelligence, unifying clinical trial data at scale for biotechs. Its AI Engineering team designs and operates agentic, production-grade AI workflows for monitoring, data quality and insight generation. As a Senior AI Engineer you will architect and ship AI workflows that help clinical trial teams monitor studies, assess data quality and make operational decisions, working end-to-end from design and evaluation through deployment, observability and continuous improvement. The role is based on-site in the Zurich office, with a 4-day office and 1 day working from home.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and ship production-grade agentic AI workflows covering tool use, orchestration, planning, memory and structured outputs for clinical trial use cases.
• Translate user workflows and product requirements into measurable AI solutions that work reliably in production.
• Design and maintain evaluation pipelines, including gold sets, metrics and experiments, to drive rigorous iteration.
• Implement LLMOps practices: tracing, monitoring, cost and latency management, safe deployment and continuous improvement.
• Build retrieval and context pipelines with strong guarantees on correctness, provenance and auditability, especially in regulated environments.
• Work with Engineering, Product, Design, Sales and Customer teams so AI features are usable, trusted and commercially impactful.
• Stay current with the LLM ecosystem and experiment with new models and tools.

Required profile

• Proven experience building and shipping production-grade AI or agentic systems, ideally in high-stakes or complex domains.
• Experience going from 0 to 1 at a VC-backed startup or similar fast-paced environment.
• Strong software engineering skills and comfort owning systems end-to-end.
• Product mindset: able to turn user workflows into pragmatic, measurable AI solutions.

The interview process lasts 2-4 weeks and includes a meet-and-greet, a technical screening, a coding interview and a multi-hour team meeting at the Zurich office.
