Senior Backend (Full-stack) Engineer

About the role

Rivia is looking for a Senior Backend (Full‑stack) Engineer to lead the design and implementation of scalable backend services for its clinical trial data platform. You will own key parts of the architecture, from APIs and data models to cloud integrations and machine‑learning components, while collaborating closely with product, data and frontend teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain backend services and APIs (primarily Java/Spring) that power the clinical trial platform.
• Model, store and query complex trial data efficiently in PostgreSQL and related data systems.
• Implement and maintain data ingestion pipelines from multiple sources.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers to define API contracts and contribute full‑stack changes when needed.
• Ensure high availability, observability and security through monitoring, testing and operational best practices.

Required profile

• Strong experience building and operating production backend services, ideally with Java, Spring and relational databases.
• Solid understanding of system design, data modeling and performance optimization for data‑intensive applications.
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) and containerised environments (Docker/Kubernetes).
• Track record of taking ownership from design through deployment and maintenance.
• Ability to work across the stack when required and thrive in a fast‑moving startup environment.
