Senior Staff Software Engineer - Delta

About the role

Databricks is looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer to join the Delta DML team, responsible for the core write‑path operations of Delta Lake. You will design, develop, and maintain high‑performance backend systems that power Databricks workspaces at massive scale.

Key responsibilities

• Solve real business needs at large scale through software engineering.
• Perform low‑level systems debugging, performance measurement, and optimization on large production clusters.
• Design architecture, influence product roadmap, and own new projects.
• Introduce tools to increase automation and operability of services.
• Prevent and investigate production issues using deep technical expertise.
• Plan and lead complex technical projects across multiple teams.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and sprint planning for junior engineers.

Required profile

• 15+ years of industry experience building and supporting large‑scale distributed systems.
• Comfortable working toward a multi‑year vision with incremental deliverables.
• Motivated by delivering customer value and impact.
• Strong foundation in algorithms and data structures and their real‑world use cases.
• Experience driving company initiatives toward customer satisfaction.
• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
