Senior Data Engineer – Data Analytics Platform (80-100%)

About the role

Julius Baer is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join its team and help build the Data Platform, which serves as the foundation for Data Analytics and AI. The position is 80-100% and runs on a 12-month contract with immediate start, paid through an external payroll partner, with possible extension.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines, data products and backend services supporting real-time decisioning, reporting, analytics and AI use cases.
• Design and implement data models for analytical and operational workloads, ensuring performance, scalability and maintainability.
• Produce high-quality, secure, testable and maintainable code following engineering best practices.
• Develop and maintain data governance, data quality and monitoring solutions across the platform.
• Work with cloud, security and architecture teams to comply with enterprise standards and cloud best practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems or a related field, or equivalent training and experience.
• 5+ years designing and implementing data engineering solutions and enterprise-scale data platforms.
• 5+ years building ETL/ELT pipelines, data warehouses and modern data platform architectures.
• 5+ years developing data applications and services in Python, Scala or similar.
• 5+ years of hands-on SQL experience, including performance tuning, analysis and troubleshooting.
• 3+ years with cloud data technologies, preferably Databricks on Azure.
• Strong hands-on experience with Databricks and Apache Spark (PySpark, Spark SQL, Structured Streaming, Delta Lake).
• Experience with structured, semi-structured and unstructured data across data warehouses, relational databases, object storage and distributed platforms.
• Solid understanding of data modelling principles and experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment.
• Agile delivery experience and strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred qualifications

• Terraform for infrastructure as code on Azure and Databricks.
• Event-driven architectures and streaming technologies such as Kafka, Azure Event Hubs, Event Grid, Apache Flink.
• DBT and Data Vault 2.0 modelling.
• Ability to provide technical leadership and guide architectural and engineering decisions.
