Senior Director, Commercial Development – Advanced Synthesis

About the role

The Senior Director, Commercial Development leads growth initiatives for Lonza’s Advanced Synthesis platform, focusing on Small Molecules API manufacturing. This senior, customer‑facing position combines commercial expertise with deep technical knowledge to expand market opportunities.

Key responsibilities

• Execute Lonza’s strategic growth plan for Small Molecules, owning customer proposals and negotiations.
• Develop and implement new business offerings aligned with Advanced Synthesis priorities.
• Provide commercial and technical expertise during customer engagements, conferences and strategic discussions.
• Partner with Marketing, Sales and Portfolio Management to secure attractive market and customer opportunities.
• Collaborate with Operations, Site Leadership and R&D to align market opportunities with capabilities and capacity plans.
• Monitor market trends, competitive activity and emerging technologies to identify new growth opportunities.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Engineering or related field; advanced degree/MBA preferred.
• Extensive CDMO experience, especially in Small Molecule drug substance or product.
• Strong understanding of drug development process and Small Molecule manufacturing.
• Proven commercial leadership, customer engagement and negotiation experience.
• Ability to lead and influence in a complex, matrixed organization.
• Willingness to travel up to ~40% and business‑fluent English.
