Senior Economic Affairs Officer, Competition and Consumer Protection

About the role

The Division on International Trade and Commodities at UNCTAD is seeking a Senior Economic Affairs Officer to lead and support work on competition and consumer protection policies. This temporary full‑time position will contribute to the development of economic strategies, policy advice and intergovernmental support on a global scale.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate economic and sectoral analyses related to competition, consumer protection, digital economy, and international transport.
• Design, organize and manage mandated programmes, commission external studies, and supervise a team of analysts.
• Prepare reports, speeches and presentations for senior UN officials and specialist audiences.
• Provide substantive support to intergovernmental bodies, including the UN Conference on Competition and Consumer Protection and UNCTAD expert groups.
• Represent UNCTAD at international, regional and national meetings on competition and consumer protection.
• Develop and maintain relationships with senior officials of member governments and respond to technical assistance requests.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in economic analysis and competition or consumer‑protection policy.
• Proven ability to lead programmes, supervise staff and manage expert group meetings.
• Experience working with intergovernmental bodies and providing strategic technical advice.
