Senior Embedded Systems Engineer (Remote)

About the role

Open Ring is building the world’s first open‑source smart‑ring platform. As a senior embedded systems engineer you will shape both firmware and hardware, turning early prototypes into a reliable, production‑ready wearable device.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and debug low‑power firmware for BLE 5.x wearables using C/C++ and Zephyr RTOS or bare‑metal.
• Lead hardware bring‑up on new prototypes, validate schematics, review PCB layouts and define board revisions.
• Design and integrate sensor interfaces (I²C, SPI, UART, GPIO) and own the hardware‑firmware interface.
• Create factory test firmware and diagnostic tools for CM‑level testing and calibration.
• Collaborate with contract manufacturers on DFM reviews, EVT/DVT/PVT validation and yield optimization.
• Work with mobile developers to verify BLE connectivity, data logging and end‑to‑end user experience.
• Contribute to hardware validation test plans, reliability testing and documentation.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in embedded firmware and hardware integration for wearables, IoT or consumer electronics.
• Proven ability to work hands‑on with prototypes, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and validation tools.
• Startup mindset: proactive, fast, resourceful and comfortable interacting directly with manufacturers.

Required skills

• C and C++ programming.
• Zephyr RTOS (or similar real‑time operating systems).
• BLE 5.x low‑power design.
• Sensor interfaces: I²C, SPI, UART, GPIO.
• Reading schematics and PCB layout constraints.
• Hardware debugging with oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
• DFM reviews and EVT/DVT/PVT validation processes.
• Yield optimization techniques.
