Senior Software Engineer - Data Engineer

About the role

A partner company is looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to design, build and maintain scalable data infrastructure that powers analytics, reporting and data-driven product development. The role is fully remote, based in Switzerland, and involves taking end-to-end ownership of ETL/ELT pipelines, turning raw data into reliable, well-structured datasets. You will work with engineering, product, analytics and data science teams and help improve data quality, observability, scalability and cost efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest, transform and deliver data from internal and external sources
• Develop and optimize data models, schemas and transformation logic for analytics, reporting and business intelligence
• Set up data validation, quality checks and reliability standards
• Monitor pipeline performance, troubleshoot data issues and implement fixes
• Implement monitoring, alerting and observability practices
• Build and maintain data solutions on cloud platforms and modern data warehousing technologies
• Improve processing speed, resource use, scalability and cost-effectiveness
• Work with analytics, product, data science and engineering teams on their data needs
• Contribute to code quality, automated testing, code reviews and deployment standards
• Document pipelines, models, schemas and infrastructure, and take part in on-call rotations and incident response

Required profile

• At least four years of professional experience in data engineering or a closely related field, with a track record of production-ready solutions
• Ability to work independently on complex datasets and in a remote-first, international team
• Clear communication and documentation skills

Required skills

• Strong SQL, including querying, transforming, analyzing and optimizing complex datasets
• Proficiency in at least one data engineering language such as Python, Scala or Java
• Hands-on experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines
• Practical experience with a major cloud platform such as AWS, GCP or Azure
• Modern data warehousing and data modeling, pipeline orchestration and data quality

Nice to have

• Apache Airflow, Dagster, Kafka, Kinesis, dbt, Terraform
• Experience with analytics or data science teams and engineering standards
