Senior Staff Physician – Oncology Phase I

About the role

The Oncology Institute of Southern Switzerland (IOSI) in Bellinzona is expanding its Phase I Unit and seeks a Senior Staff Physician with strong expertise in drug development and early‑phase oncology clinical trials. The position is 80‑100% and offers the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary, internationally connected environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, initiate, and manage early‑phase (Phase I) clinical trials in oncology, including first‑in‑human studies.
• Collaborate with academic partners, pharmaceutical industry, and research institutes on translational research projects.
• Provide clinical care for patients enrolled in trials and ensure safety monitoring.
• Contribute to scientific publications, conference presentations, and grant applications.
• Participate in teaching and mentorship activities within the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences (USI).

Required profile

• Medical degree with specialist training in Medical Oncology.
• Recognition by the Swiss Federal Commission for Medical Professions (MEBEKO) or ability to obtain it after hiring.
• Registration in MedReg and proficiency in Italian and English.
• 2–3 years of experience in a Phase I oncology unit is highly desirable.
