Senior System Engineer (SCADA/RTU) - Substation Automation

About the role

Hitachi Energy's Grid Automation business unit is looking for an experienced Senior System Engineer (SCADA) to support challenging substation automation projects for high- and medium-voltage installations. The role combines strong technical expertise with project responsibility and a customer-focused approach, supporting projects from concept through engineering, testing and commissioning. It is a full-time position based in Baden, Aargau, Switzerland.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement SCADA systems for high- and medium-voltage substations using IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104/-101/-103, Modbus, DNP, OPC and other protocols
• Develop system and network architectures and integrate RTU, gateway, protection and automation systems
• Configure Ethernet-based communication networks and implement project-specific software
• Carry out system, integration and FAT tests, and support commissioning and service work at customer sites, mainly in Switzerland
• Advise customers on automation and communication solutions and take technical ownership within projects
• Work with project management, sales, suppliers and internal engineering teams
• Prepare technical specifications, system concepts, test documentation and operation and training manuals
• Contribute to improving engineering standards and processes

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Automation Engineering or a comparable qualification
• At least 5 years of experience in power automation, substation automation, SCADA or RTU systems
• Technical project coordination, customer consulting, FAT, commissioning and/or customer training experience
• Strong written and spoken English; German is an advantage but not required

• Industrial communication protocols, network architectures and cybersecurity in critical infrastructure
• IEC 61850-based systems and integration of protection, control and automation systems
• MicroSCADA, RTU500 or IET600 is an advantage
