Software Engineer, Robot Autonomy Intern

About the role

As a Software Engineer intern on Robot Autonomy, you will develop the software that powers Laelaps AI's legged security robots, handling perception, localisation, and navigation in real‑world customer sites.

Key responsibilities

• Build and improve components of the on‑robot autonomy stack such as perception, localisation, state estimation, planning and navigation.
• Integrate sensors (lidar, cameras, IMU) and process their data under varying lighting and weather conditions.
• Reproduce field issues using logs and simulation, identify root causes and implement fixes.
• Design repeatable tests and metrics to validate changes across routes, lighting, weather and site layouts.
• Test software on physical robots and participate in site visits to observe real‑world performance.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Master’s/PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Demonstrated depth in at least one autonomy area (perception, localisation, state estimation, motion planning or navigation) through a thesis, research project or substantial work.
• Strong Python coding skills and hands‑on experience with ROS 2.
• Comfortable using Linux, Docker and Git in daily workflows.
