Staff Observability Engineer (Remote)

About the role

We are seeking a Staff Observability Engineer to lead the design and implementation of a large‑scale observability platform. This senior, remote position focuses on building telemetry infrastructure in Java for distributed systems used by global engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and lead development of a Java‑based observability platform for large‑scale distributed systems.
• Design high‑cardinality metrics pipelines and end‑to‑end tracing systems that operate reliably at enterprise scale.
• Define platform standards and drive adoption of OpenTelemetry and related tooling across engineering teams.
• Lead cross‑team initiatives to improve visibility and telemetry coverage of distributed services.
• Evaluate and introduce AI/ML techniques for anomaly detection within the observability stack.
• Mentor engineers and support technical growth within the observability team.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience in IT roles.
• 7+ years of Java development experience in platform or infrastructure engineering.
• Deep expertise in observability platform architecture, including metrics pipelines, tracing, and instrumentation.
• Proven experience designing high‑cardinality metrics systems for large distributed environments.
• Strong knowledge of OpenTelemetry and observability standards.
• AI/ML experience for anomaly detection is a plus.
• Demonstrated cross‑team technical leadership at a Staff or equivalent level.
• Advanced proficiency in English.
