Staff Software Engineer, Backend

About the role

This remote‑first position is at the heart of a global payments infrastructure platform. As a Staff Software Engineer, Backend you will design, build, and scale the distributed systems that handle high‑volume, mission‑critical financial transactions while shaping technical direction across multiple engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive backend engineering strategy, aligning architecture with product goals.
• Design and implement scalable, reliable distributed systems supporting global payment flows and partner integrations.
• Act as the technical authority for third‑party PSP and partner connectivity.
• Influence engineering practices through design reviews, code contributions, and mentorship.
• Identify and resolve cross‑team dependencies and technical bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to prioritize roadmap based on technical constraints.
• Promote engineering excellence with testing strategies, documentation, and scalable design principles.

Required profile

• Extensive backend engineering experience with a proven track record of building and scaling distributed systems.
• Demonstrated ability to operate at a staff or principal level, influencing architecture across multiple teams.
• Strong understanding of payments infrastructure, developer platforms, or complex integration systems.
• Hands‑on experience delivering high‑performance, mission‑critical services.
