Teaching & Research Associate – Sedimentology & Geo‑Biosphere

About the role

The Department of Geosciences at the University of Fribourg seeks a Teaching and Research Associate to lead research and teaching in sedimentology, geo‑biosphere interactions and related paleo‑environmental topics. The appointment is full‑time (80‑100 %) and initially fixed for five years, with the possibility of a permanent position based on performance.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct independent research on process‑oriented sedimentology, including experimental, analytical and quantitative studies.
• Secure external funding through joint research initiatives.
• Supervise and manage core facilities such as the micro‑CT, experimental and geochemical laboratories.
• Develop and deliver undergraduate and master‑level courses in general geology, sedimentology, sedimentary microscopy and laboratory methods.
• Organise and lead field and laboratory practical sessions.

Required profile

• PhD in Earth Sciences or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum three years of post‑doctoral or equivalent experience in sedimentology or geo‑biosphere research.
• Strong interdisciplinary, communication and networking abilities.
• Ability to teach Bachelor courses in French or German (after a learning period) and Master courses in English.
