Tech Lead - Application Responsible (Java)

About the role

Julius Baer is hiring an Application Responsible for its Software Engineering team within PTSG. This is a hands-on technology position focused on resolving highly complex legacy system defects and delivering robust, scalable Java-based solutions with modern frameworks and enterprise-grade technologies. The role acts as a technical influencer, driving engineering excellence across teams while aligning with business objectives, regulatory standards and the bank's commitment to secure and reliable IT delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze and fix very complex legacy defects that other developers cannot solve, and communicate technical issues to non-technical audiences
• Develop and deliver Java, EJB, Spring Boot, Oracle and Kafka streaming applications, translating business and system requirements into scalable, stable solutions
• Ensure adherence to bank standards for code, security and performance, and expose candidates to Wealth Management systems (Triple' A Plus, E-Assets)
• Work in Agile (Scrum) and follow best practices such as TDD and CI; investigate and resolve production issues
• Manage internal and external stakeholders (finance, business change engineers, project managers): analyse requirements, estimate effort, plan timelines and track progress
• Drive and review technical and architectural designs, enforce architectural guidelines and ensure timely, high-quality delivery
• Act with integrity, due care, fair dealing and adequate risk management and compliance with laws and regulations

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of development experience in Core Java and Java EE
• Minimum 3 years in the financial domain; banking experience preferred
• Minimum 2 years of TDD experience
• Able to prioritize multiple tasks, influence projects and translate functional requirements into technical solutions

Required skills

• Core Java 8+, JUnit, Maven, Linux shell scripting, JMS/MQ messaging and SQL
• Web services (REST, SOAP), Spring core concepts, SQL query optimisation
• IntelliJ, Git, SonarQube/SonarLint
• Desirable: JBoss, Spring Boot, JSF, JPA, EJB, React or Angular
