Thermals & Clearances Engineer - Gas Turbines

About the role

Ansaldo Energia, a power generation company headquartered in Genoa with more than 3,300 employees and a strong international presence, is looking for a Thermals & Clearances Engineer. The role focuses on designing, developing and validating gas turbine power trains and contributes to shaping the power generation landscape.

Key responsibilities

• Develop the full engine model of the gas turbine to evaluate thermo-mechanical behaviour across different transient mission cycles, taking engine efficiency into account.
• Iterate with Thermal Integration, Compressor and Turbine teams to check the inputs for the mission cycles.
• Support design solutions for blades, vanes and structural elements regarding clearances and thermal behaviour.
• Work with the Mechanical Integrity team on lifing assessments of rotors and casings.
• Develop new automated numerical methods and tools providing thermal input for lifetime assessments and clearance evaluations.
• Process and evaluate test results, take responsibility for technical documentation and present analysis results to the expert community.
• Support the development of tools and methods.

Required profile

• Master's degree in mechanical engineering with a background in fluid dynamics and heat transfer mechanisms.
• At least 3 years' experience in turbomachinery design preferred.
• Basic knowledge of gas and steam turbine architecture and operation, and of the parameters defining transient thermo-mechanical behaviour.
• High focus on quality results and documentation, critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication skills and experience in multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent command of English and availability to travel occasionally (max 10%).

Required skills

• NX/ANSYS or similar tools for 1D, 2D, 3D multiphysics analysis.
• Programming in Python and C++.
