Trade and Statistics Consultant

About the role

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is seeking a Trade and Statistics Consultant to support the TrainForTrade programme. The role focuses on enhancing port‑related training, research, and communication activities across English‑ and French‑speaking networks.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise with local instructors and focal points of the English and French Port Management networks to organise agendas, coordinate national‑level training, and undertake field missions as required.
• Assist in organising final dissertations and serve as a jury member in Mauritania and other network countries.
• Conduct research and analyse data on international trade and ports to contribute to UNCTAD’s Review of Maritime Transport and the yearly Port Performance Scorecard, including editing relevant chapters.
• Prepare correspondence, invitations and follow‑up communications with experts and stakeholders, ensuring participant registration.
• Draft final activity reports, produce articles and communication content for UNCTAD and TrainForTrade, applying UN gender‑inclusive language and promoting stakeholder engagement.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master) in economics, marketing, public policy or a related field.
• Minimum 20 months of experience in research related to economic and statistical policies, trade matters or project management.
• Experience with economic and policy research, statistical procedures, and liaison with national and international stakeholders within an international organisation.
• Fluency in written and spoken English and French.
• Experience drafting reports and official communications is desirable; familiarity with TrainForTrade methodologies and port‑related matters is an advantage.
