Trade Facilitation Intern

About the role

The Trade Facilitation Intern will join UNCTAD's Division of Technology and Logistics, supporting the Trade Facilitation Section’s research and capacity‑building activities. This unpaid, full‑time internship (40 hours/week) can be carried out on‑site in Geneva or remotely, starting in September 2026 for an initial three‑month period.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in online meetings with supervisors and team members.
• Assist in economic, econometric and statistical research on trade facilitation, customs, transit and new supply‑chain technologies.
• Help prepare and standardise training materials for the UNCTAD Empowerment programme for National Trade Facilitation Committees.
• Produce digital and paper‑based outputs such as brochures, presentations and articles.
• Support the organisation of in‑person and virtual workshops, from preparation to post‑event reporting.
• Draft short analytical notes, develop charts and graphs, and contribute to project documentation.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or recently graduated from a university programme in economics, international trade, statistics or a related field.
• Strong analytical mindset with interest in trade policy and supply‑chain issues.
• Ability to work independently under supervision and meet deadlines.
• Valid visa for Switzerland if choosing the on‑site option; otherwise, reliable internet access and a suitable computer.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Office 365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience in statistical or econometric analysis.
• Ability to create data visualisations (charts, graphs).
• Basic knowledge of digital content creation tools.
