Unmanned Aircraft Safety Engineer (UAS)

About the role

Dufour Aerospace AG is seeking a Safety Engineer to lead safety and reliability activities for its unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). You will work closely with engineering and operations teams to identify hazards, assess risks, and embed safety measures throughout the UAS lifecycle, from design to operational deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct and document structured safety assessments, hazard analyses, and risk mitigation for UAS platforms and subsystems.
• Lead system safety assessment activities such as Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) at system, hardware, and software levels.
• Identify safety‑critical functions and failure modes, propose corrective actions, and track their implementation.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and integrate safety risk mitigation strategies.
• Monitor operational safety data and incident reports, analyse trends, and recommend improvements.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in functional and systems safety, preferably in an aerospace environment.
• Strong knowledge of aviation safety standards (e.g., ARP4754, ARP4761, ED‑280) and UAS regulations (EU 2019/947, SC Light‑UAS, FAA Part 135).
• Excellent technical writing, communication, and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Detail‑oriented, proactive problem‑solver with strong analytical and critical‑thinking abilities.
